What is the main takeaway from "Centrix integration: running compliant credit checks through DEIS"?
DEIS now offers direct Centrix integration. Here is how to set it up and ensure every credit check is IPP3A compliant.
Do NZ data bureau lookups trigger IPP3A?
Yes — when you access personal information about an individual from a third-party register or bureau (Carjam, PPSR, Centrix, Companies Office, etc.), IPP3A requires reasonable steps to ensure the individual is aware of the collection, with evidence.
Is DEIS a legal adviser?
No. DEIS is a compliance platform that records lookup pathways and evidence. Organisations should confirm legal positions with their counsel or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner where needed.
Centrix is one of New Zealand's three credit reporting agencies, alongside Equifax and illion. DEIS now offers direct integration with Centrix, allowing you to run credit checks and record IPP3A compliance in a single workflow.
Setting up the integration
You will need an existing Centrix account with API access. Contact Centrix to enable API access if you do not already have it.
In DEIS, go to Settings → Integrations → Centrix.
Enter your Centrix API credentials (subscriber ID and API key).
DEIS will verify the connection and confirm the lookup types available on your account.
Running a credit check
Go to Lookups → New Lookup.
Select "Centrix" as the data source.
Enter the individual's details.
Select the IPP3A pathway: written consent (most common for credit checks), verbal consent, notification, or exception.
If you select written consent, you can upload or reference the consent form.
Submit the lookup. DEIS retrieves the credit report and logs the compliance evidence.
Credit Reporting Privacy Code interaction
The Credit Reporting Privacy Code (CRPC) governs how credit reporters like Centrix handle information. It does not remove your IPP3A obligations as the requesting agency. DEIS ensures both sets of obligations are met.
