What is the main takeaway from "Carjam integration update: new data fields and faster lookups"?
Our Carjam integration now includes additional vehicle data fields and significantly faster response times.
Do NZ data bureau lookups trigger IPP3A?
Yes — when you access personal information about an individual from a third-party register or bureau (Carjam, PPSR, Centrix, Companies Office, etc.), IPP3A requires reasonable steps to ensure the individual is aware of the collection, with evidence.
Is DEIS a legal adviser?
No. DEIS is a compliance platform that records lookup pathways and evidence. Organisations should confirm legal positions with their counsel or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner where needed.
We have updated our Carjam integration with several improvements that DEIS users have been requesting.
New data fields
The updated integration now returns:
Full ownership history (not just current owner)
Import history and compliance dates
WoF and registration status
Odometer readings from WoF checks
Stolen vehicle status
PPSR financing statements linked to the vehicle
Faster lookups
We have optimised our Carjam API integration to reduce average lookup time from 3.2 seconds to 1.1 seconds. For businesses running dozens of checks per day, this adds up to significant time savings.
Compliance impact
The additional data fields do not change your IPP3A obligations — the same pathway selection applies. However, because the lookup now returns more personal information (full ownership history), the case for notification rather than relying on exceptions is stronger.
Availability
The updated integration is available to all DEIS users with an active Carjam subscription. No changes to your DEIS settings are required — the new fields appear automatically in lookup results.
