2025 was a big year for DEIS and for privacy compliance in New Zealand. Here is a summary of the highlights.
What we shipped
- Xero integration — sync your Xero contacts and run compliant lookups on your existing client base.
- Team management — multiple users per account with role-based access controls.
- Equifax integration — choice of Centrix or Equifax (or both) for credit checks.
- Bulk lookups — process up to 100 lookups in a single batch.
- Landonline integration — property title searches with IPP3A compliance.
- API and webhooks — integrate DEIS into your existing business applications.
- Custom notification templates — brand your IPP3A notifications.
The privacy landscape
- The Privacy Amendment Act 2024 increased penalties to $50,000 and gave the OPC own-motion investigation powers.
- The Privacy Commissioner issued 18 compliance notices, with motor vehicle dealers and finance companies most affected.
- Third-party data collection complaints increased 23%.
By the numbers
- Over 2,000 businesses signed up for DEIS in 2025.
- More than 500,000 compliant lookups processed.
- 98.7% of lookups had a valid IPP3A pathway recorded.
- Zero compliance notices issued to any DEIS customer.
