A month after DEIS went live at deis.nz, the individual transparency portal has become one of the most active parts of the platform — often before businesses finish their own onboarding.
Notification open rates
IPP3A notification emails sent through DEIS include a link to the individual portal. Open rates are significantly higher than generic marketing benchmarks — consistent with our view that people engage when the subject is their data.
What individuals look at first
The most viewed fields on a lookup notification are:
- Which organisation ran the lookup
- Which data source was accessed (Carjam, Centrix, etc.)
- The stated purpose recorded by the business
Individuals rarely dispute lawful lookups when the purpose is clear. They dispute opaque ones.
IPP6 requests from the portal
A growing share of IPP6 access requests originate from the individual inbox rather than cold emails to businesses. That is good for everyone — structured requests with identity already verified through magic link reduce back-and-forth.
For businesses
If you use the notification pathway, write purposes in plain English. "Vehicle history check for trade-in evaluation" beats "due diligence." Individuals who understand the purpose are far less likely to escalate.
For individuals
Sign in at deis.nz/my-data with your personal email. Every DEIS notification ties back to the same inbox — no account password required.
